Digitally Sculpted Designs

My digital design process takes place in ZBrush, a modelling software with an organic approach similar to that of sculpting in clay. In my particular process, moving from digital design to a physical piece of jewelry requires the intermediate step of creating a 3d resin print. This resin print is then used to cast the design in a jeweler’s metal – sterling silver, bronze or gold.
Featured on this page are image renderings of my digital jewelry designs. For most designs, I envision sterling silver, with a combined brushed and high polish, and dark patina added into the recesses.  Some of my designs are suited to bronze, with a similar finish.  On occasion, gold will also be an appropriate option.
From digital design, final crafted jewelry will be achieved using traditional silversmithing techniques.

In this video, my “Water Element” pendant design is dressed in sculptor’s Mah-dirty-blue. As I sculpt, this material gives me a good sense of the design’s light and shadow areas. Ultimately, I envision this piece cast in sterling silver, with a combination of brushed and high polish, and finished in the recesses with a contrasting dark patina.
