For the past few months I have been taking silversmithing classes at Bedrock Studios in Edmonton, Alberta. Needing to get in some practice, I decided to make sterling silver rings for my partner, my adult kids, and their spouses.
Textured sterling silver bands; and for the ladies, cabochon gems set with fine silver bezels.
Bedrock Studios offers a wide variety of classes, from silversmithing to beading, enameling, and soapstone carving. Most recently I learned the art of lost wax casting. This bronze cast, still caked with investment, was created from a mixture of organic and resin pieces. Apart from the dry maple keys, the organics turned out exceptionally well! I look forward to using them in upcoming jewelry projects.
Henry jumped up on the chair to give me a little supervision while I broke off investment from my stone-in-place casting.
Henry thinks I need a little supervision. I think he’s great company!
Bedrock employs a number of highly competent instructors. So far, I have had the pleasure of learning from Andrea Haukedal. You can check out her crafted jewelry and find out where she’s selling these days by visiting Peanut Gallery Jewelry.
